World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the level of an item. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it will be able to deal. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, as the level of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
item upgrading can also be used to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other rerolling options.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than in later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140.
Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shops or made using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their items if it does not work.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
